The World According To Kamixlo : An Interview

Brixton-born producer Kamixlo has been warping the edges of club music for over a decade. With roots in Chile and a sound that fuses industrial intensity with reggaeton rhythm, he’s carved out a sonic universe that’s both emotionally raw and physically unrelenting. From co-founding the cult London collective Bala Club to linking with artists like Bladee, Mechatok, Evian Christ, and Isabella Lovestory, Kamixlo’s influence runs deep across underground scenes. His last album, DEATHWORK, marked a new high point. dark, defiant, and emotionally charged, a body of work that cemented his status as one of the most uncompromising voices in experimental music today.

Hi Kami. How’s life?

Hello, life is ok. It's complicated right now. A lot of changes are happening. But I hope time will make things clearer.

Lowkey, what's the most unexpected thing you’ve done in the past month?

just made the new theme song for KENTA, the Japanese pro wrestler, this past month with my friend Mechatok. KENTA is one of my favourite wrestlers ever, and I also made his previous theme song, but I wasn't expecting him to ask me for another one.

How did music come into your life? was there a moment you decided "aight that's what I'm doing from now on"?

I've been making music my whole life, from when I was a kid, my granddad taught me how to play guitar and a bit of piano. There's music in my blood; a lot of my family are musicians. I didn't ever expect it to become my career, and I didn't expect people to listen to my music; I always just made it for fun. There was never really a moment I thought this is what I will do, it's always just been what I do.

If you weren't Kamixlo the musician, what do you think you would be doing today?

It's hard to think about. I would hate to do anything other than be a musician. Maybe I would take care of animals and have an animal shelter. To be honest, being around animals is way cuter than being around people in the music industry. I would work with animals, mostly cats.

What does your playlist look like these days? (respectfully)

I have one playlist on Spotify called “gym riddims”. It's really messy. At the moment I have a lot of Misfits, The Mars Volta, some Metallica songs and some K-pop, I have Stayc, Twice and a few Red Velvet songs. I always update my playlist before I take a flight.

Your music is aggressive, but there’s always something deeply emotional behind it. What do you think is the hardest feeling to translate into sound?

Good question, I think maybe happiness. I don't think I've ever made a happy song. Maybe it's something I will try to do on the next album.

You can swap bodies with anyone for a day. Who would it be, and what’s the first thing you do?

Maybe some in Area 51 and find out the truth about aliens and leak that information to the public.

Do you believe in luck? Or do you think everything’s just cause and effect?

I don't really believe in luck.

How do you feel about club music in 2025?

Honestly, I'm not really in touch with current club music. Even when I used to run Bala Club we weren't too much into club music, I guess that's why we created our own sound. The mindset was that we would make the music we wanted to hear in the club.

What legacy do you wish to leave behind in the world?

I don't really care about my legacy. I'm already anxious about being perceived as it is. I just hope my family and friends knew I loved them.
